Rebecca Gemmell28 Sep 2025 - 18:11

First games of the season!

Our Minis showed fantastic effort, teamwork, and spirit to start the season. It’s days like this that show what Felixstowe Rugby is all about—thank you to the families, coaches, and volunteers who made it possible.
- Andy Osborne, Youth & Minis Chairman

What a fantastic start to the season for Felixstowe Minis as we welcomed Ipswich YM for our first set of fixtures. The sun was shining, the energy was high, and every single player did themselves, their team, and their families proud.

The U8s got their season underway in style, playing two brilliant matches of tag rugby! For many it was their first taste of rugby, but you wouldn’t have known it. The players gave their all, showed great listening to their coaches, and put in a huge effort from start to finish. A great mix of new and experienced players worked together beautifully! What a way to begin their rugby journey.

Special mention to our debutants: Ezra, Teddy, and Ronnie! What a fantastic first game!

The U9s had two tough games, but their effort, teamwork, and determination shone through. They battled hard in both fixtures, winning 6–5 in the first game and 6–3 in the second. The tackling, support play, and commitment were outstanding. No fuss, no tears—just pure effort and enjoyment. The kids should be so proud of what they achieved, and so too should their parents.

A big shoutout to Tobias, making his Felixstowe debut today! You smashed it!

The U10s played just the one game, and what a contest it was! Eventually going down narrowly 5–6 to Ipswich YM. But the scoreline doesn’t tell the whole story. The team stuck together, played with huge spirit, and showed determination and passion from the first whistle to the last. Some brilliant tries were scored, and the celebrations showed what this team is all about. It was their first game of contact rugby as a group, and it’s clear there’s so much more to come. This is just the beginning for a fantastic bunch of players.

A warm welcome to our U10 debutants: Spencer, Jax, Noah R, Coby, and Seth! A brilliant first run out in Felixstowe colours!

The U12s welcomed a small group of Ipswich YM players for a joint training session. It was brilliant to see both clubs working side by side, showing great rugby spirit, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The players adapted quickly, enjoyed the challenge, and created a positive atmosphere that reflected everything our sport stands for. A fantastic experience for everyone involved.

U15s: Eastern Counties 10s Tournament
Felixstowe U15s competed in the Eastern Counties 10s Tournament yesterday, held at Royal Hospital School, Holbrook. Amidst stunning vistas and meticulously prepared grounds, the team began with a commanding win against the first of two Colchester sides. Strong forward play, with excellent rucking and mauling, epitomised Felixstowe’s performance.

The next fixture against Clacton resulted in a draw. The Clacton squad was well drilled and physically larger, but teamwork and support play by Felixstowe matched them on the pitch. The game was sadly cut short when a Clacton player was unfortunately, and unusually, injured when not in contact with any other player.

Felixstowe’s third game was against a second Colchester side. The intensity of the first two matches created some fatigue, which showed in missed tackles and uncharacteristic handling errors, allowing Colchester to take the win.

The final game of the day was against Hadleigh, which proved an exciting, end-to-end contest. Felixstowe led until a last-minute try by Hadleigh levelled the scores, with the subsequent conversion giving Hadleigh the win.

Great teamwork and distribution of the ball marked a much-improved Felixstowe performance. Leo S and Leo M provided superb ball handling, and in particular, added well-considered tactical and cross-field kicks to the attacking play.

Congratulations to Tristan H and Peter M for converting teamwork into tries in some style. Also to Ollie F and Peter M for their decisive and committed tackling, leading the way for the team. Lastly, our Try Assist recognition goes to Ben A, for repeatedly keeping the ball moving from set piece and breakdown.

The whole team working together as one, combining their individual skills and responsibilities, was a great way to spend a Sunday morning.

Many thanks to the mums and dads for supporting and transporting, and also to Tom E and Toby S, who, despite being unable to play, cheered their team on loudly from the sidelines!

Thank you to our Club Chairman and U15 Coach, Shaun Allen, for the report!

A huge thank you goes to our amazing Badger Sett Café crew, who kept the supporters warm with hot food and drinks, and made sure our players were well looked after with hotdogs after the games. Your hard work, catering, and warm hospitality really helped make the day special for everyone! Thank you!

A massive thank you to all the parents and families who came along to support. The players did you proud today, and it was great to see such brilliant encouragement from the touchlines.

A superb start for Felixstowe Minis with lots to build on, and plenty more great rugby ahead this season the mini Badgers!
